UCLA Student Apologizes To Asians For Racist Video Tirade

The UCLA student, Alexandra Wallace, who got infamous after his video rant about Asians sparked outrage and a nationwide debate about free speech, ,must consider himself lucky as he will not face any disciplinary action by the university. Wallace however, is planning to withdraw from school. UCLA's Daily Bruin newspaper yesterday posted a letter online, saying that Wallace apologized for offending "the UCLA community and the entire Asian culture."



Philadelphia Archdiocese Faces Lawsuit Over Sexual Abuse

A Delaware man yesterday sued the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, alleging abuse by a priest. The man said in his lawsuit that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia leaders failed to stop a Northeast Philadelphia pastor from molesting him when he was a teen. He alleged that the employees also failed to help him when he sought their help as an adult.



Elisa Baker Charged with Murder of Zahra Baker

More than four months after 10-year-old Zahra Baker’s disappearance, her jailed stepmother was charged with murdering the disabled girl, as the indictment came the same day when the authorities revealed that they were unable to find the dismembered girl’s head.



2 Charges Against Jared Loughner Dropped

Prosecutors in the Jared Loughner case yesterday dropped two murder charges against Loughner, the man behind the shooting rampage in Arizona. The feds dropped the charges from the original complaint filed against Loughner and it is certain that the charges will reappear in a new indictment against Loughner. The new indictment is expected sometime before March 9, when Loughner’s hearing will begin in the court.



Giffords Recovering Quickly, Begins To Talk: Report

The staff of injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who is recovering from a gunshot wound to the forehead, is speaking "more and more every day." Giffords is currently undergoing rigorous speech therapy at Houston's TIRR Memorial Hermann. Press secretary C.J. Karamargin told the Houston Chronicle yesterday that Giffords had begun speaking "recently," often using more than one word. He added that Giffords also ordered toast for breakfast one morning. "(She's talking) more and more every day," Karamargin said. "She is improving in all areas." Karamargin however, did not reveal the words or phrases spoken by the congresswoman.

It is quite shocking to even think about giving delivery to a new life in a toilet. But something of that sort seemed to happen this Tuesday. A new born was found to be struggling to survive in a toilet of the sports arena of South Carolina. The new born child was rescued by the cleaning staff there.

New York Smoking Ban Extended to Parks and Coastlines

In some of the strictest anti-smoking benchmarks to have been approved by the councilors in New York, the ban on smoking will extend to municipal parks, beaches and even Times Square. Three months after it is signed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, it will take effect.



Bloomberg Slams Gov. Cuomo Over Budget Cuts

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg yesterday slammed Gov. Mario Cuomo over his $132.9 billion budget proposal. The governor defended the proposal saying that state funding to the city will drop by $659.4 million, including a $579.7 million hit to the school system, but Bloomberg stressed that cuts are far worse. A fuming Bloomberg criticized the governor for failing to provide any relief for unfunded mandates. "Without those changes [mandate relief], we will be looking at thousands of layoffs in our schools and across city agencies," Bloomberg said.



George Allen Likely To Announce Senate Bid Today

Former Sen. George Allen is expected to formally declare his candidacy for Senate in Virginia today, POLITICO was informed by two Republicans. Speculations are rife that Allen would send an e-mail to supporters with a video message before alerting the media about his candidacy. Allen’s decision to declare his candidacy should not as a surprise for many as the former governor and senator has been meeting voters to champion a repeal of the health care law. He is also holding closed-door meeting with state lawmakers planning his next move.



L.A. Mayor Issues Statement Over Gardena High School Shooting

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa issued a statement shortly after the Tuesday morning shooting in the school. The mayor said that he was “deeply saddened” by the events at Gardena High School, and that the community must work together in order to help make the schools safer.
