Apple Starts Taking Online iPad 2 Orders

Apple today said that the iPad 2 will go on sale at retail locations at 5 p.m. on March 11, Friday, but people who are willing to purchase the new tablet device by not going at the retail stores can place the order online starting at 1 a.m. Pacific, 4 a.m. Eastern, but those who can’t wait any more to lay their hands on the new device will be able to buy an iPad 2 at 5 p.m. local time at all 236 Apple retail stores in the U.S. The tablet will also be available at 5 p.m. local time at AT&T, Best Buy, Target, Verizon Wireless, and Walmart stores. The iPad 2 will also be available at select Apple Authorized resellers. Apple announced that that iMovie and GarageBand for iPad are available in the App Store for $4.99 each from today.



Maryland Worker Objects To Use Of Social Media For Background Checks

The American Civil Liberties Union is supporting Maryland corrections officer, Robert Collins, who said that his employer have no right to scour his personal Facebook account as a condition of employment. "Here I am a U.S. citizen that hasn't broken any laws, committed any crimes," said Collins in a YouTube video, taped by the ACLU, ”and a prospective, or in my case, an employer, looking at my personal communications, my personal posts, my personal pictures."

Total Lunar Eclipse On December 20

The coming Monday is a special day because a total eclipse of the moon will be visible throughout North and Central America from 11:41 p.m. PST Monday until 12:53 a.m. Tuesday. The day is special because this is the first such eclipse in almost three years. The moon will enter the Earth's inner shadow, or umbra, at 10:33 p.m., and the sky will get darker as the shadow progresses across the moon. If the weather will be clear, then the sky buffs will be able to watch this whole process.



Russian Soyuz TMA-20 Rocket Blasts Off Into Space

A Russian Soyuz rocket yesterday blasted off from Russian-leased Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The Soyuz TMA-20 rocket, carrying a crew of three to the International Space Station, took off in the night sky at 10:09 pm Moscow time (1909 GMT). The crew is made up of one Russian, an Italian and an American.



Facebook No.1 in Glassdoor.com’s 50 best places to work list

Facebook not only has been able to turn in record members, but also is the best place to work. It has occupied the top slot in Glassdoor.com’s third-annual list of 50 best places to work. Facebook dethroned Southwest Airlines who were ranked No.1 last year. Facebook’s rival Google is down at No. 30. Giving company to Google in last 20 are Adobe at No. 39, Salesforce.com at No.41 and Intel at No.45.



Google criticised for search favoritism by competitors

Various websites have complained of Google tactics of generating search results that favor its Google Places feature, putting their sites at a disadvantage. However, Google dismisses the claim saying that “Google is for users and not for websites.”
