Diddy has scored the top position in the Forbes magazine’s list of the world's richest rappers. The hip-hopper has accumulated an estimated wealth of $475 million, owing to his Bad Boy record label, Sean John fashion line and his most succesful and attractive venture, his vodka brand, Ciroc.
However Diddy told MTV that he did not pay much attention to the accolade. "I don't really get caught up into the list. I think people think that I have that money actually sitting at home in the basement," he said, adding that he would only be worth that much money if he sold all his companies and assets. "To everyone calling me for a loan today, I do not have that money today!"
Jay-Z followed in the second place with a fortune of $450 million, slipping from the first position that he has bagged as the highest earning hip-hop star last year. He made $63 million in 2010, more than double of what Diddy earned.
Jay-Z earned his big bucks from album and tour sales, his 40/40 nightclub and his part-ownership of NBA basketball team New Jersey Nets. Of course, combined with his wife Beyonce's fortune, the pair are worth much more than Diddy.
Dr. Dre came in third on the list of wealthy hip-hop artists with a fortune of $125 million. The fourth place was shared by 50 Cent and Cash Money Records founder Birdman, who are both said to be worth $100 million.
The annual Forbes list only comprises performers, which is why Def Jam mogul Russell Simmons, who's worth about $340 million, did not feature on it.
