With the red-hot development of the social networking site, Farmville’s game developer Zynga has been caught into a class-action case that is filed in a San Francisco federal court Nancy Graf of St. Paul, Minn.
The lawsuit has accused Zynga for sharing the data of 218 million users of the Facebook. The case is demanding to cover the damages done by revealing the personal info of the Facebook users without their prior permission. This has led to call a stay on "continued privacy abuses". Michael Aschenbrener of Edelson McGuire LLC told, "This appears to be another example of an online company failing the American public with empty promises to respect individual privacy rights."
Earlier the spokesman of Facebook has stated that due to technical issues associated with the browsers, the site saw an accidental leak of its users’ personal information. Technically, the user information is transmitted through a referrer URL, a phenomenon that is spread not only on Facebook but across the Internet. Only the difference is, unlike other webpages, the users shares most of their information on Facebook.
However, the Zynga representative has declined the allegations, "We believe that the complaint is without merit and we intend to defend against it vigorously." Regardless of these technicalities, US congressmen has asked Facebook to give explanation on the leakage of personal information alleging that it is a serious violation of the trust of the Facebook users.
