'Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock' (Xbox 360) Review: Guitar Hero - Warriors of Rock is the innovation being offered by Neversoft in the music sim genre after Rock Band 3 left Guitar Hero 5 far behind by offering different instruments as well as the potential to actually learn an instrument to the gamers. Warriors of Rock has a unique set list and a special, comprehensive narrative mode.
The set list offers over 90 songs which are hits from The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Megadeth and many more. Each song comes with over ten challenges and over 1,000 accomplishments to earn. Here it gives some added replay value than the standard band sim title. The new quest mode is a step by Neversoft to regain the interest of the gamers who have left their plastic instruments.
The quest mode commences with a cache of Guitar Hero animated characters: Echo Tesla, Judy Nails, Johnny Napalm and Austin Tejas. Your goal is to power them up by playing songs, earning stars and pledging your undying loyalty to Rock. As you move ahead, you'll also get to play as Lars, Axel and other GH characters. Each character has his or her unique power boost that helps them earn more than the standard five stars.
Each character has a fully animated cut scene to introduce them as well as a cut scene to show them transform once you've powered them up.The quest is fully narrated by Gene Simmons which yields the desired effect. Once you power up a character and they transform, you will play a final song for that character.
Keeping aside all these add-ons, the core game remains just the same which is kind of disappointing as there is nothing new to offer and Warriors of Rock and Guitar Hero 5 are no different. The game fails to leave an indelible mark on the gamers. The characters of the quest are interesting but not really memorable. The complete narration is promising though.
