The Thai security forces are preparing to seal off a protest site in Bangkok occupied by anti-government Red-shirt protesters who are still gathered in the area ignoring a deadline to end their two months of rallies.
Security forces announced that would start surrounding the protest site from 6pm (1100 GMT) today, and would allow people to leave but not enter the protest site.
On his part, Jatuporn Prompan, a protest leader urged the protesters to surround the armoured vehicles of the security forces to prevent them from dispersing the crowds. "We will send out groups to surround these vehicles to prevent them from advancing. We believe the army will try to crack down this evening or tomorrow morning," Jatuporn told supporters.
Two days ago, the government had threatened to sever power and water supplies to the Rajprasong neighborhood of Bangkok, where the protesters are encamping, if they refuse to disperse by midnight local time (1700 GMT) yesterday. The deadline has already passed but supplies are not cut and the protesters are still massed at the site.
